Been on da fence for a new boat most of the season.
The ones I really LUST over, all go, JUST before I get there, others look WAY better in the pics and the owner kinda sorta, "huh, I didn't know about that" forgets about flaws, ( like maybe it's not the STARTER bad, but the motor SEIZED!).
So, option # 2..........
My '91 Grumman UH SF 184 is a alright boat, but I'd like a bit bigger than the 70 HP 'Rude hanging off the back.
I find a 2006 90 'Rude for sale, not a bad price.
I believe I'm gonna need a new control.
So, I type in "2006 Evinrude 90 HP outboard control" thinking I'll get a list and pick one and be done.
It doesn't come up this way.............
I see controls, they say for 'Rude, but not, "such n such" year, HP.
What am I missing here?
Are they more "cross HP and years" than I think, (I'm a Chrysler tech for more than a few decades, so I'm used to looking for parts year, model, engine size, car color, what they had for lunch last week, when ordering parts).
What am I missing or doing wrong?

Well for one thing, there are various styles of controls used. Surface side mount, Flush side mount, Binnacle mount, to name a few. Then there is the compatibility thing, as in what fits what, etc. BTW, what did the seller do with the control that was on it? A big curse on the guys that cut the cables instead of disconnecting them.

In 2006 there were 90hp 4-stroke and I3-E-Tec Evinrudes (and carbed V4 2-stroke Johnsons). Do you know what you're looking at?

Go to epc.brp.com. Select "OB Accessories", then "2005-2006".
#5006180 is the E-Tec style remote control with powertrim.

I figured WHEN I found a site that I could pick out what I need, I'd be able to get the one I need ( surface side mount).
The controls with the motor??
I'm ass-u-me-ing that the place took the controls off to sell or did a upgrade or????
I emailed the place and asked IF they had controls for it, and cost.
A while I had talked to a guy who had a 90, when I asked about the controls, he had hacked the cables and wires up, (besides the fact he wouldn't let me do a compression test, ("a marina did one already, was good").

They used controls with a big red plug starting in 1973 and those fit any Johnson / Evinrude motor with a big red plug on the motor.-----Then in 1996 or 1997 they went to a different style plug in on the controls.----An adapter cable was offered to use older control on the newer motors if you want that.
