I am considering putting one of those hand cranks or electric units on my boat and was wondering about the pros and cons and your personal experiences with them, which ones do you like and wich ones do yo wish you had never seen.

Re: Anchor Accesories

The hand crank anchor mates are a real pain, in the a**, and in the arm. Crank crank crank crank, just another couple minutes and I'll have the slack out of the rope and the anchor will start lifting. Crank crank crank crank crank STOP!!! We're drifting into the rocks. Quick start the motor to hold position. Crank crank crank crank crank.

The one I had, had a one to one crank ratio. Took forever. Also a pain to drop anchor as line doesn't feed out like it should.

The MinnKota electrics look decent, but you are stuck with their teardrop shaped anchors. I don't know how well they would hold a larger boat, or in chop, or a river.

Maybe someone will tell us.

Re: Anchor Accesories

Thanks roscoe those are the ones I was leaning towards. Go and burst my buble on how fantastic it was going to be, actually I'd much rather know now than after I spend the money.

I proabably wont spend the money on the electric for now however Would still like the take of someone who has or had one for future referance. hopefully someone will share.

Funny how we paint such a rosey pic of how neat something is going to be when we convince ourselves we want one.

P.S. you painted an excelent image of the hand crank with your words and have proabably just saved me a bundle of money, time, effort, and frustration.
