I recently Bought an 18ft center console fishing boat. My question is, what size anchor do I need? I will be in salt water around Key West FL. Also, what Type, Grapple, or fluke type? Thank you for any answers you all provide

Re: Anchor Question(s)

I use a 6lb Seacure for my flats boat, I would probably look at the 13lb model for your boat with ample rode. I fish the Keys alot and this thing has never let go, it also lets you hook at the top so you can pull it out of the coral.

Re: Anchor Question(s)

If the bottom is soft (sand, silt, nud) a fluke anchor is tops. the manufacturer will recommend a size. I would think 8-10# would be correct. If you go out in wind or current, go up a size and add 5' of chain.

down here we have quite a bit of hard bottom. I only really go to one spot that has soft bottom.

8# danforth, 5' chain, 150' of 3/8 3 strand nylon. Thats what I used on my 19' center console a few boats back.

Whatever you do, DO NOT drop your anchor onto coral, in the Keys. They will nail you good...

Re: Anchor Question(s)

well yes and no, there are restricted anchor free zones that obviously you can't but most of the keys is coral and you can outside these areas, but I agree you should try not to.
