Anchor Question

I noticed when pulling up to a beach area that many people had two anchors. The standard bow anchor and one digging into the sand at the stern. I tied my stern up to a fallen tree and had the bow anchored, but I felt to close for comfort and I think I lost my skeg that day when some jerk went by to fast and created a very large wake. I am wondering what type of anchor I should get for my stern. I saw some people using the folding type that I have on my bow, but I also read that mushroom anchors are good for sand/silt. Any suggestions.

Thanks,

Re: Anchor Question

You need two anchors for safety, so I would recommend a stern anchor that is equally capable of securing the bow. I caught myself with a stern anchor that was two small this week and it caused me some issues. Mental error when packing for this trip, but it reminded me that I want either anchor to hold in an emergency.

For the beach I use a Shore Spike, very convenient. Still need a second anchor though, so only go this way as a third.

Re: Anchor Question

it is common -especially at popular sand bars- My boat has a high profile and catches alot of wind. I bury a fluke anchor that is also my back up .Just be sure you are deep enough and raise the outdrive/lower unit to not hit bottom- or a rock!

Re: Anchor Question

I carry a danforth for the bow, and a fallen tree for the stern. Sounds like you need to upgrade your tree
