What is the minimum diameter for anchor rope on a 23 ft mako with a 225 evinrude? I have 1/2 inch now but need more rope and would like to know what would work to try and keep down the costs.

Re: anchor rope

Depends on why you are anchoring. I used 1/2 inch
on my very heavy 28' Luhrs for a lunch hook. The storm anchor had 3/4 manila but I got caught in a blow in Port Jeff and the 1/2 held fine. The only problem is it tended to stretch out and pull back -- sort or like using a bungee.

By the way, for the purist, there is no "Rope" on a boat, only "line" and the anchor line is called "Rode".

Re: anchor rope

I was wondering when does the rope I bought for my anchor become rode exactly. When I bought it at the store it was labeled rope. It was still labeled rope when I got it home. Now there was the point I tied it to the anchor. At first without a chain. It was probably still a rope then. Now I finally added a few feet of chain and actually anchored up and fished. I think that may have converted it to an official anchor rode. :)

Re: anchor rope

A rope is a rope, until it touches a boat. Then it's a line....unless it's a specialized boat line such as a rode, painter, halyard, etc.

We don't need to talk about "bumpers" vs fenders, do we? ;)
