It good to hear you may at least be able to put this in the past. I really sucks when you have enemies that live next door.Enemies with guns

Wait a minute though, they shot the dog on YOUR property? Pick a few of their sheep off, they were eating your grass.

Bassy,
I'm so sorry for your loss! I hope poor Buddy didn't suffer. It's hard to lose a lifelong friend no matter how they go. You have my deepest sympathy.
I won't go into how I'd handle it. Too many have already said too much. Hope it works out with your neighbors.
Brian

JB,

Good answere. I culd not have said it better. That is exactly what I would recomend; the path that seems harder in the begining is the path that is easieast in the end ;)

I should have read your edited version first. I'm glad you talked it out with your nieghbor.

Sorry Bassy, I had to put Nellie down this past Friday. She was 14 and wasn't able to get up any longer. I've been a dog owner all my life and it didn't get one bit easier this time. :(

I'm so sorry to hear about Nellie, Skinnywater. I know how you feel. But she isn't suffering anymore, which is good.
Buddy, a rottweiler, had a pretty good life (16 years is a good long life). I knew the reputation of rots before I met him 10 years ago and Buddy was nothing like that. Never knew a friendlier dog. A sweetheart.
Two years ago we're pretty sure he was poisoned. Husband almost put him out of his misery then, but he bounced back with more energy than he did before that. He's been puppy-like ever since. So, I know the life he had with us was a good one and he went the way he was happiest, out in the middle of the mountains.
A couple came by this morning asking if we'd seen their dog; police dog. Its been missing for two weeks. Husband told them about neighbors shooting dogs. So, maybe there is a problem up here that needs handling. Strength in numbers is what I say. So this may not be over yet. We'll see.
Bassy

Again, 'ol Carpy is late in responding.

Sorry for your loss Bassy. :(

I will say this, (and not to stir the pot), I own 16 acres, and I frequently see dogs chasing deer and doing all sorts of things on my property. As a landowner, it frustrates me that many people let their dogs run loose. I have a dog that stays in its pen. Its just amazing that some people think its ok for their mutt to run rampant on others peoples property. I have told my neighbors that if they don't want something bad to happen to their dog, then make sure it has a collar. (There have been many "wild" dogs in our area). I have also "asked" them to keep their dogs off of my property. I have a good pellet gun for the dogs with collars, just gives 'em a little sting.
Sorry for the rant, and I am not referring to you Bassy, just what I have personally witnessed.

Again, sorry for your loss.

Bassy,

Sorry again for your loss.

Nice to hear your neighbor has an explaination and the guts to own up to the mistake. It may not help your grief, but perhaps essuage your anger.
