Fla. Baby Dies After Being Left in Car

INVERNESS, Fla. (AP) - An infant died in her father's car Friday after he mistakenly left her there for hours outside his office, authorities said.

Edward Hynes went to work at an Inverness carpet cleaning company about 7 a.m., forgetting that his daughter, McKenzie, was in his car, said Gail Tierney, spokeswoman for the Citrus County sheriff's office.
story

This just infuriates me and it seems like once a week I read yet another story about a child dying as a result of a negligent parent.

How on earth can people forget they have a child in the car. Do we have so much on our minds that we can remember being responsible for a human life?

Re: Another Baby Dies after Being Left in Car

I guess
I saw a woman once place two toddlers in the car seat and drive off. the only problem was the infant in the car carrier was still on the roof where she had placed it while wrestling with the toddlers. lucky no damage was done and the infant carrier surrvived and protected the infant. scared the whales out of me and the man I was working for. all I could think of was we were going to see sqaushed baby. all it takes is a moments inattention and bad things can happen to good people. dont be so harsh to judge based on a news story.
good luck and keep posting

Not judging Rodbolt. Just making a statement about how overwhelmed people are today with the pressures of life that they can't even think straight.

I find it extremely upsetting that because we are so scatter-brained that it costs a human life. One we are responsible for. I find that negligent.

Re: Another Baby Dies after Being Left in Car

People seem to have the spirtit of "STUPID" on them any more. I got into it with a young couple the otherday when I saw the (overweight) mother get in and put a child about 2 years old on her lap and put the seat belt accross both of them. I was out of my truck before the guy got in the car and said, "Hey, may I make a suggestion", He said what? I said, "Dont you know that if you have an accedent and your child is strapped in like that she could nearly be cut in half do to the weight of your wife being forced against her", He said, Would you tell that to my wife, I have been trying to tell her that for a year and she will not listen to me", So I told her, and she told me to mind my own business. Oh well, I tried.

So sad, so sad. :(
and lubedude, that absolutely infuriates me. What the heck is that parent thinking? I don't know if I could walk away. I would probably get on the cell and call 911 and report child endangerment. Give a license plate number or something. Man, that is just so @#&^$%... can't even say the word.
Bassy

Good call, Bassy. Do it if ever you see that. Growing up in the 70's when my brother and I fought(which was often) me or my brother had to stand up on the hump(back seat over the driveshaft)as punishment. Zero protection in the case of fast stop or accedient in a car with no safty. Luckily nothing bad ever happenend as resault. Cars are replaceable, not kids. PDS

Here's one that made me sick and disgusted as a human being.

Child found in car while father was inside a brothel.

Seems that 'common sense' isn't that common!

Chris...........

Re: Another Baby Dies after Being Left in Car

Here in the Detroit area, we have had a couple of cases where parents have left their infants/toddlers in the car, engine running, while they ran into the convienence store for "just a second". Almost predictably, the car was stolen  One they had to hunt down for the better part of a couple days, the other thankfully the car thief (turned unintended kidnapper) turned himself in when he discovered the child in the car.
About a year ago, we had a well publicized case of a mother leaving her child to die in a hot car while she spent 4 hours in the beauty salon :(

just another reason to keep abortion legal, and to push mandatory birth control. maybe we can spare these children the pain.

Re: Another Baby Dies after Being Left in Car

While I do think people have made themselves too busy, as I father I never did that and I was always busy. I guess I have difficulty trying to imagine how a person forgets their kid is in the car. Of course, with all the stupid crap people are letting their kids do now, what difference does it make. I watched a mother letting her little daughter drive a fullsive ATV around. The kid was so small her feet could not reach the footrests, and she had to lean way forward to reach the handlebar. At least she had a helmet, so her head would be the only thing not crushed when the thing flips. I just looked at the mother and shook my head in dismay. She got the message and took the kid inside. Of course, this was a lakefront big money house, so apparantly they didn't buy any common sense with that money....

Re: Another Baby Dies after Being Left in Car

matt,

I would disagree wholeheartedly. We have devalued the lives of infants and newborns to the extent where placing them in dumpsters to die now carries the punishment of probation. Sucking the brains out of children minutes before birth is now a "procedure".

The value of human life is devalued by the existance of legalized abortions and look where it has left us.

Re: Another Baby Dies after Being Left in Car

I have to say that I really feel for some of these folks. I know that it seems rediculous that someone should forget about having a child in their car. That doesn't mean that they didn't love the child. If transporting the child wasn't part of their normal daily routine, and a parent had been fatigued by a sleepless child, I can see this happening.

Can you imagine how devistated that parent would be when they realize that not only is their child dead, but they are the cause.

I tend to be a forgetful person. Fortunatly, my wife tends to compensate for my forgetfulness. I guess it's just the pressures of life. I live for my kids. I can't imagine what I would do if that were to happen to me. Of course, my kids were always very vocal about their needs. Now their teenagers, so the worries are a bit different.

I once forgot to pick my kids up from day care on-time. I got focused on a project at work and didn't realize what time it was until the jantor walked into my office (no windows). I felt terrible about it. Fortunately the day care folks stayed late and didn't call the sheriff.
