My mom sent that information to me last night.
Very sad.

"Northmor Principal Larry Cawley"

That is the High School I graduated from. Mr. Cawley was one of my teachers then. We lost a girl and a two boys in our Senior year in seperate car accidents.

The gun owner should be charged also. However, at 17 years old the boy should have known better.

AK Chappy

Why can't the education system teach these kids how to handle a gun and be safe with it and show them what it can do?

They used the same arugments to get sex ed in the schools, why not gun ed?

Ken

KIZ, this use to be wonderful state is having problems funding schools now. The Ohio Supreme Court has determined that our schools funding now is unconstitutional. Could be a reason why very very few levies get passed.

I know back in the 70's our school had the NRA and the Ohio Division of Wildlife come in a instruct all the classes on firearm saftey.

With all the libs complaining about firearms, needless to say the two are now kept out of school. I guess the libs thinks that no training on firearms keep the curiosity out of the young peoples minds. I don't agree, awareness of the dangers of firearms are very important and can prevent accidents like this.

I'm proud to say that I passed down to my kids what I learned from that class long ago. I think other parents should do the same if the schools won't do it. It may have prevented this accident.

Liberals think that teaching gun safety makes kids less safe, and more likely to be curious about guns.

Conservatives think that sex ed makes kids less safe and more likely to be curious about sex.

The hypocrisy is amazing.

In the 7th grade, our P.E teachers had us pass the Hunters Saftey Training for Texas. If I was 2 years younger, I would be required to have this training to hunt any game.

I thought it was a great idea, I wish they would teach that nowdays to kids.

Ken

The trouble with kids & sex ed. is that they are already come "armed" ;) and it is a public health issue when thay are left uneducated....If'n you want to own a gun & you have children, it is your responsibility to see to his/her awareness....Guns have no place in school.....Period......JK

Well Haut the same thing could be said for sex ed. If you have children and they are horny, it is the adults responsibility to see to his/her awareness. But the liberals didnt trust the parents, so they kids are educated at aschool.

I cant believe the liberals do trust the parents on guns. Oh yea, their solution is to take away all our guns. So why dont they just castrate all the boys? :D

It sux when your arguments for one thing you like make good sense for something you dont like, eh?

Funny thing is, my high school had a shooting range on site for the ROTC. I wonder if they closed it down?

Ken

Re: Another senseless shooting

Ken, I don't follow your line of reasoning.....
It just don't hold water.....
It is the parents responsibility to see that their children recieve the proper education regarding sex.....Teaching sex ed. in schools is a matter of public safety, esp. when you get parents who are neglectful, or uptight puritans who can't bear to talk about it with their kids.... I find it funny that some parents could teach a kid to drink beer & shoot a gun, but can't talk about sex  ....Everyone has one, some have two, I guess  ;) :D whether you want one or not, it really a'int a choice! Castration, as you suggest, would physically harm a child, some cultures even do it on girls!
Taking your gun away will not harm you, unless you are in the military! There is no real need for gun ed, but there is a real need for sex ed, if I'm gonna fund it that is where my money goes every time.....There is no real need to shoot or own a gun as a minor or as an adult if you are not in the military.....
Let me state for the record, that I do own firearms & I agree that the right to bear arms is a good thing....Gun control is a steady eye & hand, in my book!.... :) .....JK

Re: Another senseless shooting

A shame for sure, but, lets look at this statisticaly.

Out of the large population in this country and the number of guns out there, (I wont use numbers as I dont know them), there are honestly very few accidents such as this. Its like school shootings, out of all the schools and kids enrolled in them, there are very few situations per year. But because of the press, there has to be a big thing made out of the ones that there are.

H*ll, Bicycles and skateboards kill and mame more kids than guns do, probably 100:1.

I'm not saying that we shouldnt teach gun safety, (Kids and adults), its just overblown buy the media.

Haut, you are living in denial.

America is a gun loving country and there are guns everywhere. Face it, there isnt anyway to round up all the guns, I dont know why that reality hasnt hit the anti-gun people in the head yet.

Because we chose to have it this way, we should educate our kids accordingly.

Ken

I wasnt going to get envolved in this part of the thread, but this statement is a bit absurd if you ask me. I mean, what kind of absolute ignorance is this??????????????????????

Not teaching your kids about guns is next to child abuse in this day and age. What makes you think that if parents wont teach there own kids about Sex, that they will teach them about guns????????????? The NRA should be in every school, and every teacher should be educated about guns also. As far as Im concerned, they should have one strapped to there leg.

I guess bass fishing is a mental illness, because you are still missing the point...
In order to posess a gun you must seek it out to obtain it....Although you do have a point.....
Maybe it is time to have a liscensing test before you can own a firearm, thereby proving that you have the skill to handle / use it...
Again, there is no real need for a minor to posess a firearm......Can ya hear me now?
Those who are killed in stupid gun accidents are expendable, IMHO.....JK

I hate discussing things on the internet, Its too easy to miss a point, I hope Im not misunderstanding you.

Now:

I think you are missing my point.

No, they dont need to posess the firearm, they just need to have it in there hands. Kids are "VERY" curious, I was the worst. I lived in a house with guns and I messed with them, "My Bad", when I could. I was fortunate enough to have been taught at an early age how to handle them. I however was not obedient as I should have been. I never shot anyone nor shot myself. Kids will be kids. Thats all, they need to be taught about guns.
