Cool boat. You wont regret restoring her. Youll be cruising around in no time thinking why you didn't do one sooner :)

Thanks for all the positive comments! I a honored to be a part of the Tin Fleet. She will receive a FULL restoration in the spring. I have already redone the the transom wood and rear section of the hull has been stripped, primed and painted, just waiting on a decent day to reassemble and mount outboard. Over the winter I will work on trim, interior and rechroming. Will probably stay with the white and navy blue color scheme.

How could I resist such classic lines! Never did care for plastic boats and this seals the deal.

Well, I started putting the transom back together today, all the predrilled holes all lined up! I feel like Popeye now after screwing in 45 slot-head screws for the splash-well by hand, candle wax was definatly a huge help. I still have some through bolts to do (temp. dropped so wasn't comfortable the 5200 would cure), but basically done! The old girl has some backbone now. I should have the outboard remounted by the end of the week. I posted a question in the outboard forum but no answer, so I'm gonna ask here. Has anyone used DB Electric for either starers or altenators? They have a starter for my 83 Johnson for $70 but want to check their reputation before I purchase it.

Eventually the 5200 would have cured, even if its applied underwater. May even cure faster underwater.... But if applied cold it'd be thick.... warming the work area with a halogen work light & keeping the 5200 warm until your ready to start applying it would have helped.

Sorry never heard of DB Electric, local to you? Or online?

couple steps closer to the big S

I wasn't sure about the curing, thanks for the info JB. DB-Electric is online, based out of Tennessee. I called and spoke to a rep. He said the reason the starer for my outboard was so inexpensive was its a faily common design and the "marine" application is just a reason other companies use to jack up the price. It has an excellent warranty, if I don't here anything bad about them by Friday gonna order it.
