Another Toon Plug problem

My right toon is taking on water, and is not draining out. It is not much but I want to find and fix the problem. Unfortunately the factory plug at the rear bottom is corroded so bad it will not come out. I am thinking about drilling a new hole next to it and welding in a plug kit, much like those I have used in automotive instances. Is this something anyone has done or had done? Should I first try a smaller drill bit to drill out the original plug? I would like to go out a couple more times but am afraid it will take on more water. Any thoughts on this? thanks

Do you know for certain that the water is coming IN through the old plug? If so, then I wouldn't drill a new hole as this one has to be repaired. Drilling it out and replacing it may be your best option, but I would try any method possible to to free it up. At this point it is "No harm,no foul". If is not leaking through the plug, and you choose to leave it as is, I would consider making a hole on the top of the pontoon at the rear and use a small 12 volt pump available at Northern Supply, Tractor Supply, Princess Auto etc. This way the new hole will not be a source of a leak in the future.

if you can weld in a new one do it and just remove the old plug and have that hole welded shut then it can't leak.

Unless the boat is hemoraging water you are fine to go out some more this year, it will list considerabley before you have a real probelm..
