Another what is this thread

I put a 1980 merc 20hp kicker on the starcraft, and it has a control box with the whole nine yards. My question is, what is the little round knob in the front bottom of the control box? It has wires to it. I had to take the box apart to install new cables. It is not the choke or the neutral rpm riser. I am stumped on this one! Thanks in advance, bob
