another wood sealing question

I never replaced a floor in a boat before but am ready to give it a try. I've read posts on here till I'm blind on the right way to do it, but I do have a simple question since everyone seems to be divided between poly and epoxy to seal the PT plywood (and I'm not even gonna open up that pandora's box :) ).
SO, has anyone ever tried thompson's water seal? Is this an alternative or is it a failure waiting to happen? I have used both poly and epoxy in different applications and am familiar with their uses. Any opinion on this would be appreciated.... Thanks... Russ

Thompsons will seal but...The problem is getting the glass job to stick to it. A friend of mine replaced a rotten section on his deck and sealed it with Thompsons before glassing. He let it dry 2 weeks before glassing but the 10oz glass with polyester resin lifted about 6 months later.

Thinned epoxy is best but If you don't want to spend the bucks do thinned polyester. Thin it approx 15% and do 3-4 coats. Wait for each coat to get tacky before applying the next. This usually fills the grain and seals well for long term protection.

Seal it with whatever method (material) you're going to use to lay the f-glass mat with.

I believe the poly epoxy debate goes way beyond Thompson's.........way. As DWJ has stated..........most of the poly -epoxy debate is centered around complete recon stringers transom's and attempts to conserve money by using one product for its superior gluing properties and then laying over another product wich is by far cheaper to use, and how the intermix will affect overall integirty.

Both are light years ahead of Thompson's.

I think BILLP answered my question. I never thought about the bond the epoxy and mat would have over the thompsons. Granted, cost is a factor, but I never minded paying extra for quality. The thompson's suggestion was just a thought I had and I knew I would get the right answer here.. Thanks guys... Russ
