Anti fouling paint for outdrive

I am process of re assembling the transom assembly on my project Sea Ray and am almost ready to prep and paint the housing/gimbal ring and drive and was wondering what is best paint for anti fouling and corrosion protection. The boat will eventually (if I don't run out of money first) be kept in the salt waters of Barnagat Bay on the coast of NJ. I will of course make sure all the anodes are in place an that the merc cathode system is functioning. My other boat is trailered so I have not had to deal with this. As alway any info is greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend an think spring.

I bought a can of Zinc Chromate Primer paint and Quicksilver Phantom Black. Here's a kit on ebay;

That kit won't prevent marine growth.

Even if you prep and paint it properly, keep in mind that the paints for aluminum are not that effective at preventing growth. I brush on 2 coats and spray wha I can't reach with the brush. I stii get growth and usually pull the boat early August and clean off the drive and transom mount, clean out the water intakes (you can get growth inside the lower unit water intakes) and touch up the paint. It all depends on you conditions. Keep an eye on the level of growth and the anodes.

I have almost no growth using Interlux Trilux 33.
My boat is kept in a salt water slip from April-November.
Any growth is easily removed with a pressure washer, at the end of the year.

It's worse where I am on the North Shore. We get barnacles and slime after 2-3 months.

Thanks for the info. My friend and I were out and about yesterday's and stopped in to our local west marine to see what they said. The answer was as above trilux 33. Boy that stuff is expensive :embarassed: and I will need the primer too as there are some bare spots on the bell housing. Do I need to spray the bare aluminum with zinc chromate then the Interlux primer? Have a great evening.

I just research this last week (before I saw your thread) and came to the same conclusions: Interlux Trilux 33 is one of the only options you have. Standard bottom paint has copper which will corrode the aluminum. Paint 1-2 inches of the Trilux onto the hull before switching over to the cheaper copper based hull bottom paint.

I believe the datasheet specifies to use Interlux Primocon as a primer. But check out their website and datasheet since it has different directions for different boat types and situations (ie. on top of other paints).
