AQ255 Volvo 350/ Edelbrock 600CFM (new last year)..... 90 gallon tank. Ran fine all summer. Pull it for the winter, and it was just about out of gas, I had the bow down a little (not thinking), and while flushing, it ran out of gas. I jacked it up, and it started again after a little priming with a squirt can of gas down the carb to save the starter wear until the filter filled up. This was a few weeks ago. Went out today to do the oil and fog, added another 10 gallons of gas, and just as I was about to do the fogging, it started to quit again. Did a quick look in the carb, and gas was dribbling out the jets, but still died. Long story short, water sep filter was only 1/4 full (ran it long enough to warm up the motor real good, so thats about the gas used. Filled it up again, and it ran long enough to do the same thing again. So the pump is working enough to pull the gas out the filter. Is the anti-siphon valve maybe crudded up from sucking something up? I put a new fuel pump on two years ago after the diaphragm started going bad (gas in the clear line to the carb), and the gas that came out of the filter is just dandy...no crud or water. Ran out of daylight today, but will check the vent, and pull the gas tank line and see what I can see tomorrow. This is a 1977 Bayliner Saratoga, and if it has a Anti-siphon valve (?), its been in there almost 30 years. Any ideas? Thanks

Re: Anti-Siphon Valve problem?

perhaps ya might want to do a fuel pump pressure test. don't know what the spec. is for yer engine so ya'd need to find that out.
i did me a high speed run the other day and boat started chokeing at high speed. checked the fuel filters and they were both horrible. amazed it even ran at any speed. so ya might want to check them fuel filters out. i have 2, one on the fuel pump (replaceable), and one at the carb(cleanable). don't know how many filters you have.
my boat is round about 30 years old too. and i don't see a anti siphone valve on mine. you would have to look at yers and see.
since ya got the fuel water seperator. and it had water in it. ya may want to change that out too. just to be sure that aint the issue. i don't have one of them either.....

Re: Anti-Siphon Valve problem?

As long as your vent is clear, you can take a new piece of fuel hose, run it from a gas can to the pump and see if it solves your problem. If it does, you'll know it's the line, Then you can check the ASV, pickup, etc.. When my anti-siphon valve failed, the barb broke right off at the fitting. When I was removing the fuel line from the pump to start the above, it just came right out.

Sometimes ya should NOT decide while its getting dark to finish the job........some dumbass (me) forgot to pull the tape off the vent...all better, AND another note for the dash! 8)
