Bruce....I agree with you that heat can accelerate corrosion. But heat alone or hot and humid, may be co sidered worse. This is not applicable in the conditions we are talking about. Especially over winter. Iron will likely rust faster in hot lab conditions, but we are talking about over winter and damp conditions.
Your time spent in education with chemistry will surely also tell you that there will be less corrosion when the block is filled with fluid too....no doubt ?
I would still like someone to tell me why the block would be sealed and corrosion would be limited when the drain plugs are put back in after draining ?
