I have a Rochester QuadraJet on my 488r. The number on the carb is 17081299. Is this interchangeable with the Rochester QJ with number 17081297? Can an automotive carb be used in a marine environment?

Ok. Are carbs interchangeable? If so, how do you know what yours can be interchanged with?

I replaced my dads quadrajet with an Edlebrock 1409. Had to buy an adapter kit, but it went on with no problems and works great. Holley also makes one, but I would have had to wait a few weeks to get it.

Re: Any Carb Gurus?

The reason I was asking, mine does need to be rebuilt, but a buddy of mine has a Rochester QJet that he was going to put on a TransAm he's restoring, but after he bought the carb, made some changes and went with a Holley of some sort, and has this carb just sitting there. He's offering it to me (for free), but I don't want it if I can't use it. I'll be getting the number off it later today.
