Hello all,
Usually just reading previous questions is enough for me, but this time I'm stumped. I had to do a messy repair on the lower unit of my 2003 25hp 2-stroke short-shaft, manual-everything, yamaha and I just don't trust it anymore (not to mention it is now hard to keep in neutral - my fault).
Long story short, the part number for the entire lower casing assembly on my 2003 is Part 62L-45300 02 4D. I found a brand new short shaft 2006 lower unit for sale but noticed that its part number is Part 62L-45300 03 4D. (difference being the 02 and 03 digits). It looks absolutely identical in the pictures and the seller says he thinks it should fit back to a 1999 model.
The only difference between his motor and mine is that his has electric start (and that doesn't seem like it should matter at all). Lke mine, his was also 2-stroke with short shaft. Its a great deal and I'll jump all over it if I am positive it will fit... too far away to check. Any thoughts?? My concern is that it might have a different gear ratio or different splines on shaft etc...
