Is there any help needed in Florida on the inland waterways, ie: boats , docks, etc? I'm a salvager and have been thinking on heading down. What area(s) would need it the most if any? Who would I contact for more info?

Thx!

I'd call before you spend any money traveling. There were an army of salvage people in here the day after the storm. I cant imagine where you'd find anything left to salvage worth anything that hasnt been gobbled up already.

Just what are you looking for?

I'm on the east coast of Florida and 95% of the damaged boats I've seen are spoken for already. The few remaining are damaged so badly they aren't worth salvage or repair.

The day after the storm hit big cranes and barges were already working shorelines and lowboy trucks running with damaged boats onboard. The worst hit area I've been is Ft.Pierce. The big yards really got clobbered...docks, boats and all.

BillP,

Do you live in the Ft. Pierce area?
Do you know if the marine surplus store on US 1 came through the storm okay?
I'm planning on taking a trip down there sometime soon. I need some parts for a boat I'm converting.

By any chance do you have a phone number for that place?

Thanks
Dave

We’re just starting to see an increase in quality used boat parts appearing on Ebay, shipping from Florida.

Dave,
I live 50 miles north of Ft.Pierce and went to check a boat there on Monday. I drove by the surplus place but didn't notice if they were open...and don't know their number.

I may be going south again Friday to look at another sailboat. What type stuff are you looking for?

I'd be real careful about the "quality" part.

The insurance companies and salvage people are putting them up for auction for a very short period and if they dont get top dollar, they take them off and run them again later until they get what they want.

Be very careful....

Re: Any Help Needed in Florida?

BillP and Snapperbait,

Thanks for the info.

I'm converting a 17' Mckee Southporter into a center console. For those who are not familiar with the boat, it's a Boston Whaler style boat and this model has two forward side by side consoles. I think the consoles are ugly and also take up too much room. I'm removing the consoles and replacing them a small flats type boat center console. I've done this before to the same model boat.

I need the center console, throttle controls, small steering wheel and some other stuff.

Man I love going into that place. It has almost every imaginable piece of hardward you can think of.

I'll post some before and after pictures of the boat when I get it completed. It will be a winter project.

Thanks again guys.

Dave
