Any info on a 1992 javelin with 3 lt omc cobra out drive

Hi r these boats sturdy ?im looking at a this its mint low hrs and the cobra drive. Has been totally rebuilt with bill to prove. I can get it for 3000 is that a decent deal????? Any info would be appreciated thanks was javelin made by tempest???

Ayuh,... OMC went Outa Business Over a Decade ago.....

I wouldn't buy an I/O from OMC...

Never heard of Javelin or Tempest boats. OMC drives, sure.

Do you plan on doing all repairs yourself? Many shops will not touch them.
Parts are all aftermarket and some can be near impossible to find.

hi thanks all i boaught the boat ,as for parts they are all available ,i dont see why everyones afraid of these ,people who own them ,love them,if u look under merc there is far more problems and they say in that forum the same ,thanks for your help ,happy boating

I bought my OMC Cobra powered boat on impulse and it's been great, no drive problems whatsoever, taken good care of will last longer than I will.
Many people ignore the warning signs of a failing shift cable and progressively destroy the clutch dogs then say the drives are junk, do it yourselfer wanabe's don't fill them correctly and the drives gears melt down or bearings seize and the drives are again junk.
OMC has no doubt been phased out and that alone is the stopper for most the general public.

thanks captian ive noticed that if the previous owner took care of it,and u yourself do i just hate the bashing they all have problems ,i just wanted to get peoples insight privious owners thanks captian ,cheers to all and happy boating

Simply the reason those OMC's come up as "great deals" is for the reason already stated....in Post #2.

Wasn't good nor bad...just you maybe fishing and paying more for parts when you need them.

Also, a OMC 'great deal', now = poor resale later.

He got lots of advice he didn't ask for that's for sure, he actually asked about the integrity of boat model, it appears he had already researched the drive.
