first, i guess i should tell you folks my situation. a couple of weeks ago, i launched my boat and prepared to go fishing. its a 17 ft dargel center console, motor is a 96 hp nissan. anyway my motor had very little power. i use it constanly and it had ran fine 2 days before. i pulled the cowling off and found that a bird had built a nest right on top of the flywheel. there was straw and stuff all over the place. i took it to a local outboard repair shop where i had done business in the past. he pulled the carbs, cleaned them and installed 3 carb kits. this didnt fix problem so he replaced a coil. cost me 352.00. he called me and said they had taken the boat out that morning and that it ran perfect and was ready to be picked up. i took it staright to the lake, made it 100 yds from the boat ramp and it died. i never even got the boat planed. tried to restart it and it would hardly turn over. after a few minutes, i got it started, went back the the boat ramp and called the mechanic. what it turned out to be was that my oil pump either working, or there was air in the oil line. anyway now one of my cylinders is scratched. the mechanic says they didnt work on the oil injection and that its not their fault. my question is if they pulled the carbs, did they let the oil out of the oil lines or is he right and that the oil injection has nothing to do with the work they performed? ive had this motor for 8 years and its always ran perfectly up to now. i dont believe they took it out right before i did and that it ran perfect for them. any advice or suggestions is very appreciated.
