Re: Any overhaul hints?
1st is to forget anything you ever thought you knew about fixing a car.
2nd,especially with a saltwater block is to dissasemble ,clean and carefully inspect everything.
thjird is to find out what went wrong in the first place.
then never hone an outboard, most piston to wall clearences are .001 with a service limit of .003.
whoever bores the block must also know how to correctly Chamfer the ports. incorrect chamfering will destroy rings quickly.
main bearings, with the exception of the bottom, can usually be reused unless they are water damaged, same as rod bearings.
always replace wristpin and bottom main.
other than that, like any NHRA,IHRA or NASCAR high performance engine, strict attention to detail and cleanleness at reassembly will insure it can maintain 5000 RPM for hours on end.
