any way to test rectifier

So I have bee told that I probably need a new rectifier because my tach sits on zero, and never moves. Well the cheapest rectifier I found in the area will run me $133. I would like to know if there is a way to be sure that that is what I need before I spend that kind of money. Is there a resistance test I can do?

If you have a Clymer manual, it gives the method for testing the rectifier. If you search this thread or whatever, you will find an old post with a location to buy rectifiers a lot cheaper than 133. What engine do you have? if it is an old Chrysler with Motorola ignition, then the regulator/rectifier is that expensive. If it is a force, you can use either the rectangular or smaller square rectifier.

it is a 90 hp force L-drive. Where do I search to find one cheaper? Just type rectifier in the search for threads. Is that how it works?

the rectifier is only worth about $10. The plastic case and wire leads however, add another $125 to the value. If you are handy with electronics then you can either splice in a voltage regulator from any old car or a square bridge from mouser electronics.

do a search on ebay for "force outboard"...lots of parts...awhile back i found a brand new rectifier for $20 on there.

found one on ebay part number F369450-1 Guy wasn't sure what motor it went to. It doesn't look like mine, but will it work. And I found one from 150 hp same year, maybe that one will work, but that one is used.

Also found store online that sells them for around forty dollars. They listed them for 1990. mines a 91 will it be the same.
