Oh yeah, mortar mix is way too expensive for me to afford. LOL...

Down here, 'sackrete' is a common brand of cememt mix. Its about $2-3. or so for a 60 or 80 pound bag. Its got rocks and sand in it, all ya do is add water and stir it until ya think your arms will fall off.

I had to actually buy the stuff when I did the boat. Nowdays I hit up the manager of the local home improvement stores and they'll usually give away all the busted bags that accumulate. I scrounge them from time to time if I have a little project to do.

You may have just saved my life. I'm in dallas on business right now, so I drew a pic in ms paint to show you what my issue is. Basically, the right hand stringer is shot in the back. It is only 1/2 wide, so I was hoping to scoop out the "dust" or "muck" or whatever you want to call it, and then fill it back up with epoxy or the like. anything else would require the removal of the engine. After that, i Figured I could rough up the gelcoat in the bilg area, and then laminate another piece of marine plywood to the inside reinforcing the entire repair, epoxy fiberglassing the whole thing together. Then I would gelcoat / enamel the entire repair. What do you think?

http://briefcase.yahoo.com/dkidoliver

the jpeg named boatexplain.jpg is a brief overview.

The wood was roughtly 6 inches deep, and 1/2 wide. How structural can this be?

Also, if the above ideas suck, can I laminate many pieces of wood together to fill the void? I can fill the void from for and aft of the motormount without removing the engine. (the mount is actually built off of the stringer a bit.

I hate to ghetto it, but just assume that's what i'm going to do.

Laminating several thin pieces of wood together with epoxy is quite common practice amongst wooden boatbuilders, so you should be all right.

At one time ocean freighters hulls were made from concrete. Probably still a few floating around. Hard to believe, but it is true.

Concrete Ships
