Anybody into fish tanks?

I have a 30 gallon planted tank and I am setting up a 95 gallon.

I thought I was... then found out, I was really into planning and setting them up... once it was setup and all that was left was to feed and clean .... then I wasn't so excited.


I had an underpopulated 90gal, it sprung a leak, so I transfered everything to a 40 gal, got it all setup,... noticed a crack in the back of that tank, so gave away most the fist, kept a few in a 10 gal... once that tank was all setup .. I then realized how bored I was with fish.

It was interesting getting everything going, getting it cycled etc.

Owned and operated a marine fish store for some 6 years.Kept marine aquariums for around 20 years.Don't currently even dabble in the hobby.Too busy with other things.

I've had more in the past. Right now just a little ten gallon with a few cory catfish and some plants.

Several member have huge aquariums.

I got a 75 gallon with a few south americans.......Jack Dempsy, texas cichled and a pike cichled.....all about 5-6 inches........My 55 gallon is africans .........a breeder pair of peacocks and 2 frontosas and a couple im not sure what they are. I really want to get a 125 gallon......wife has vetoed this so far.

BTDT and now I use a natural fish bowl.
I call them lakes.

My son has two tanks. A 50 gallon and a 15 gallon. The 50 gal. is salt water. The other is fresh. No problem for him to upkeep as he leaves all the work to his mother and I. I'm about ready to trash both tanks.:|:|:|

ndemge- definately a lot of fun setting them up!

ob- how long has it been? I have been out of salt for about 15 years and I am amazed at the advancements in filtration as well as how much more affordable it is (relatively) than it was back then.

zmoz- it's not a "brown trout" is it?

mikeandronda- I love cichlids. Unfortunately, my wife calls them "mean fish."

Tyme- I wonder if I can get my parents to swing by once a week?

I have a 20 gallon tank that I have started and restarted 3 times now. Something always screws them up. I had been breeding guppies and had 80 or so in the tank at one time. Someone tried cleaning the glass with windex, and some got in there and killed everything. My next tank had the heater go bad.........pretty much boiled those fish. The last one went bad because one of the fish had some disease and then everything started to die. I am planning on restarting it again soon. Need to buy a new heater and then maybe fill it with non chlorinated bottled spring water to make sure everything is kosher.

Sold my home reef tank and its inhabitants about 5 years ago.It was a 135 long equipped with a 30 gal sump wet/dry filter,inline UV sterilizer and counter current protein skimmer.Mechanical filtration was handled with 2 300 gph Marineland canisters.Used three 300 gph power heads for water circulation and 80-100 lbs of Fiji live rock.Countless zoanthid and star polyp rocks,leather corals,tongue corals,etc..It was originally lit with 6 48" florescent tubes,4 ultra tri-lux bulbs and 2- blue actinic to maintain the spectrum necessary for the symbionic algae within the tissues of the shallow water corals to prosper.I later scrapped the 4 tri lux bulbs for two 12": metal halide pendants.Big difference.
As far as I am aware , the 'succesful' keeping of invertebrates as well as fish only marine tanks has changed little over the last 20 or so years with the exception of some higher trace element quality salt mixes and filter feeder additives.I sorta miss it.I'll likely set up another one some day,if the specimens are still available.Probably a mini-reef of around 50 gallons or so.Most of my hobby time is presently occupied with 1/24 scale slotcars,golf,and boating.

I've had a 20 gallon fishtank going for maybe 12, 14 years now,.......

Sunfish,....... Right off my dock, caught in the mid-season......
I've grown a couple of batches of 6 or 8 at a time......
They're Good for 4, 5, even 6 years.......
I've tried Perch,+ Bass, but they eat Fish,.... Not Fish Food......
Tried a Northern Pike 1 winter,......
It was a couple inches Shorter than the Tank was Long,.....
Everytime he Switched Directions,......
There was nearly a Gallon of Water Flying.......
I let it Go after a couple of months,............d

'Course,... In the Winter I have my 55gallon Fishtank running,........
In the celler way,... Full of Bait..................
