I need to get hold of a couple of photos of the throttle linkage, cable connections.
To see if it will take a speed control system.

Worked fine on my Mercruiser.

Are you thinking of buying the newly designed Volvo 240 HP V6 engine model?

One of your best bet's may be to call the manufacturer of the speed control unit you have now to see if it could ever work on this newer engine model......My thoughts are your system may not work due to I'm pretty sure this newer engine uses a digital type throttle called the EVC (Electronic Vessel Control) which would use a Servomotor to operate the throttle body all controlled by a CAN-bus wire between the throttle lever and engine computer system.

Volvo Penta?s Speed Control automatically adjusts the throttle to maintain constant speed during load changes, like when a skier cuts hard, during hard turns or in shifting swells. It?s all about Easy Boating; the engine makes micro throttle corrections so the operator can concentrate on fun. http://www.volvopenta.com/VOLVOPENTA.../V6-240-C.aspx

In the following link, see page 15 of the 240 HP engine model user manual,

Great response ... thanks ... I have been asked by manufacturer to obtain the photos .. I'll advise him of this info.
Maybe there will be someone who makes an AVC version of speed control.

Followed up through those links .. found a link off the 'Tow Mode' which seems to be Volvos speed control, but seems to only accept rpm input .... riders know the speed in mph they want to ride at not the engine rpm .... seems an odd approach.

One more related point ... is the Mercruiser equivalent the 4.5L 240 also Can-Bus technology ? I looked at web site, can see it offers Adaptive Speed Control which seems the same as you describe for Volvo.
IF they both are then I will need to change manufacturer choice of speed control form a mechanical/servo based to CAN-Bus

yes, both Merc and Volvo use a proprietary variation of J1939 CAN.

Volvo's speed control works great and has been out for a while.
