I have this idea I've been thinking about doing for some time with home automation. I often find myself coming home to a dark house with the boat, or a trailer in tow, having to head inside, turn on the lights, open the garage doors and finally back in. Usually about that time the mercury vapor lights are just reaching full brightness...
So here's what I want to do: I've decided pretty much on z-wave. I want to be able to pull into my neighborhood and activate a scene from my smartphone that will bring up the HID lights in the yard. 2 minutes later turn on the interior lights in the garage and barn, and finally open both the garage doors for the house, and the one for the barn I back the boat into. Leaving a well prepared, well lit area I can simply back down the drive in comfort.
This is all easily achievable, I've got that figured out. Here's where my issue is. I'm between two controllers, The mycasa vera3, and a homeseer. I know I can easily make all the scenes work with the cheaper Vera3, but there's talk that the trigger assignments leave something to be desired, especially when assigning "if" and "and" to the triggers. I'd like to put door sensors on the garage doors so when I hit open, the command will only be send to doors that are closed, incase someone is already home and has one open.
Likewise if I create a scene to close all the doors, I only want to activate ones that are open. Can this be done with the Vera3, or do I really need to spend the money for the homeseer unit where I know the commands can be reliably programmed?
I'm hoping some of you guys tinker with this stuff and can give me a good answer. I'm looking through the Vera3 forums now, and am trying at this point to avoid opening a account to ask the question over there. That's all I need is another forum membership.
