Yes, most manufacturers make them....It is a standardized caliber.

It's not just the cartridge that transmits the felt recoil. Stock design has a lot to do with it too.

I was shooting my Remington 760 Gamemaster in .30-06 at the range when my buddy showed up with his new to him 1903 Springfield.

I used my same loads in the 1903 and it was the same as getting smacked with a 2x4 everytime I shot it. The stock was designed to save wood ( it was a WWI & WWII military rifle ) and didn't have the shooters comfort in mind.

Make sure whatever you purchase fits you. An ill fitting rifle will cause flinching and won't be fun to shoot.

The other option is to buy a semi and let the action use some of that energy to load the next round in.

I was looking at a Browning BAR a while back but haven't tried it yet. My M14 sure takes some of the kick out compared to the bolt action in .308

yep, first time shooting a mosin nagant, i was sore. have to build up to it, shoot often, and switch to lighter guns once in a while. soon you will be "tough enough" to handle an extended session with your rifle.

Hmm...I don't find a Mosin to be bad at all. The round isn't that hot, plus the guns are heavy as crap, which soaks up a good bit of the kick. Even with the metal butt plate, I've shot piles of ammo at a time and never thought much about it....20 years ago, when I was poorer about all I had to shoot for fun was a 49 buck Mosin from Rose's department store. With ammo less than a dime a round, it was cheap entertainment.

Yeah, heavy ball was all I've ever shot. Most of it came in brown paper wrapped with a string. I've got a couple of ammo cans of it left....Heck, I didn't even know there was a light ball until recently....My rifle is a full size, not a carbine. I'd guess that makes up the difference in our felt recoil.

I bought my Mossberg years ago in Alaska.
I decided that I would practice at the range in the same configuration that I planned to carry it.

Yeah....a pistol grip 12 gauge is cool in the movies. Let me shake your hand after putting slugs and buckshot through a pistol grip 12 gauge.

Well I shoot a 45-70 from contender equipped with a 16 1/2" barrel and a muzzle brake. I have a shoulder stock on it and it is the fastest lightest weapon I carry. Hand loads with 405 grain bullets (which is just shy of an ounce) are pure torture to shoot all day.......

It is the LOUDEST hardest kicking monster but what a great brush gun!

Shooting it as a pistol w/o the shoulder stock is kin to hitting your hand and wrist with a ball peen hammer all day.

As loud as it is and as hard as it kicks........ I do not hear it or feel it when I shoot at a deer.

Ah my favorite weapon and Cal!
But to answer the question yes!
My hunting partner shoots a 300 (something) mag.
Even with a leather padded shooting jacket he was only good for about 5 shots.
So I built him a jell-cell pad and sewed it in behind the factory pad.
He can now shoot about 10 rounds to sight it in.
And there is less black and blue. : - )

Re: anyone else get a sore shoulder from shooting big guns?

A few years ago, Remington came out with a 'Managed Recoil' factory load for 30-06, 270 and 7mm mag. Basically a reduced powder load. I bought some in -06. At 5'6" and 130 lbs, I'm a wimp, and while not 'pleasant' to shoot, they made a difference. I don't remember the ballistics, but they where reasonable given the area I was hunting (no 100+ yard shots).

But, that was about the time I gave up hunting. Still have 3/4 of a box somewhere. The rounds where hard to find then, I don't know if Rem. still makes them.

Re: anyone else get a sore shoulder from shooting big guns?

Most of my stuff has a pretty mild recoil. Although after shooting my Yugo M48 (Mauser copy) 8MM W/ a steel butt plate, it starts to hurt after a while. My Browning A5 "Sweet Sixteen" with express rounds kicks very hard. I tried one of my Buddy's bolt action 30-06 hunting rifles. Can't remember the make or model, but since its nice and light for carrying while hunting, I though it was too light. A couple of shots with that, and you need an ice pack for your shoulder. I let my M1 Garand do the talking for all my 30-06 tack driving needs...

Similar here. I'm shooting a 300gr. cast over 25gr. 2400 in a 45-70 BFR revolver. Not bad unless you fan it as soon as you clear the holster.:D

Tried some of my rifle ammo in the other day and you're right about the ball peen hammer. 535gr. Postell over 3x gr. H4198 will make you see stars....and the top of the barrel between your eyes.

Re: anyone else get a sore shoulder from shooting big guns?

Hey Lipp I was thinking about getting a 7mm, one thing I was wonderig is what is the recoil difference between it and a 30-06? any thoughts?

With Factory loads the 7mm MAG definately hits you harder, has a flatter trajectory and more kinetic energy, I have shooting pads on both mine but I can shoot my 30-06 30 rounds before it starts to hurt where the 7mm MAG I can shoot 20 to 25 unless they are my handloads where maybe 15 rounds before I lose my man card! I like my 30-30 for riding in on horseback, not as fickle, and a dead shooter on iron sights it just doesn't have the reach the 7mm MAG or 30-06 does. Realistically I think they are very close shooters and I love them both I don't think there is a distinct advantage either way.

Maybe I need to just man up!!:D:D

yea, the long russian has a lot less recoil, and muzzleblast isnt as impressive, as for the 12 guage pistol grip, it is hard on the wrist with just skeet loads, havent fired off a slug through it... yet...

While this guy may not be in the same caliber as the big boys (PUN)
This Swedish military 6.65 MM/55 MM packs a good punch if you are not paying attention.

when i'm shootin at a deer, It doesn't matter how sore i am.
i harldy even hear the shot when i fire at a deer.
i'm just in the zone.
standing there is far less recoil than in the prone position.
