Anyone ever use this outdoor carpet adhesive?

Its Henry 263. I know this topic has been beaten to death but the stuff I want to use (DAP Weldwood outdoor carpet adhesive) is impossible to find in my area. I called every hardware store, big box store ect and no one carries it. The carpet I ordered (marine rubber backed 20oz) will be here by this weekend and I was hoping to get it done this weekend.

I'm afraid of using all of the big box stores indoor/outdoor carpet adhesive as all of them say water resistant and I've read too many stories on here saying people have had problems with it. I want to get it right the first time. The Henry 263 says it is "waterproof in 2 hours" and can be used on solid backed carpet (not vinyl).

Has anyone used this product and if so, did it work good? It almost looks (by the specs) to be identical to the Dap weldwood outdoor carpet adhesive.

P.S. I will be applying this to marine grade plywood that has been sealed with deck sealer. It does say to test on an rear if a sealant was used to make sure it will bond, I will definitely do that.

Thoughts?

Putting it over deck sealer? You mean like Thompsons Water Sealer?

On an aluminum boat?

All correct. I figured since it was a totally different topic from that post, I should start a new thread. I did some searching on some other boat sites and found many people use the Henry 263 and it supposedly is awesome.

I guess my question at this point is, I have marine plywood with deck sealer (Thompson) on it. Do I need to lightly sand the deck before applying this adhesive? I can still do a test spot to make sure it will adhere good.

Used it on a pontoon with Thompsons, but let the plywood dry a couple of days before applying the carpet.

No, but if you're putting carpet on it, the money and time spent on the Thompsons wasnt worth it, IMO.

I thought you always wanted to seal the wood no matter what? It didn't take me that long to seal the wood and sealer was only 13 bucks on sale at my local fleet farm.

So I shouldn't need to sand or anything, just use the correct trowel per the manufacturer spec? Any tips or links for the best way to put the carpet in? I have no template since the old carpet was completely trashed. I was thinking of making a heavy paper or maybe even cardboard template but I'm open to suggestions.

P.S. The sealer has been dry for about two weeks now.

Probably no need to sand, and yes you should seal the wood, but Thompsons isnt a good choice,. For a little over twice the money, you could have gotten a much better choice for sealer: spar

Esp for the end grain of the ply, which is exactly where you need it sealed most.

A lot of time, money and effort to put in a new deck and carpet......

I used the Roberts outdoor carpet adhesive which I'm sure is the same. It stuck HARD. I had to redo my bow area since I used too thin of plywood and it cracked in a couple places. There was NO removing that carpet. The carpet ripped apart before the adhesive let go. Be careful when you use it to trowel it out well because too much in any spot will push up through the carpet and look super bad.
