Anyone have any leads on this carb kit? FK10125

Hey folks, so I am rebuilding a set of carbs off of a 89 85hp Force for a friend, and wanted to try to save him as much dough as possible. I have looked around alot, and the cheapest is about $19-20 bucks per carb + shipping. I have not bought a carb kit in a long time, just usually clean them and reset, but he insists. With that said any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, when I replace the aluminum plugs (I think I have heard them called scotch, welsh, and even freeze plugs) does anyone think I should put some sealant on them before I press them in? If so, what kind?

Don't know about the carb kits but you can look on outboard parts I think it is **********.

The small welsh plugs do not get any sealer. The large plug is pressed in then it is topped around the rim with sealer. Clear epoxy or even JB will do. Difficult to remove next time but who says there will be a next time. Permatex brown (hardening) will seal it nicely too.

Show your friend this post: unless the carbs are totally messed up with worn jets and needles it is completely unnecessary to rebuild them. In 95% of cases, a good cleaning is all that is required. All gaskets are reusable unless the cork bowl seal is torn. Most time rebuilding the carbs is a waste of money and just makes the owner feel good.

Thanks Frank, I could not agree more. I spent almost an hour trying to convince him it was not necessary, but like you said it makes him feel better LOL!
