Re: Anyone "know" this boat?

I had a similar Wellcraft 22' with 454 a few yrs back. Too much power for a 3400lbs boat unless you are on a flat lake.

Any wave or wake + speed will make that boat jump out of the water. It is too light. At 45 mph, I got into some wind driven chop. First wave took the boat 3' out of the water. Engine over revved. Slammed down on the next wave, thought I was going to pitch-pole.

Next boat was a 27' Scarab ~ twice the weight ~ 7000lbs. A little slower, ~ 53mph, but handled the water better/safer.

Also, for a go fast, you NEED bolster seats, otherwise you will get tossed around and lose control at 45MPH. Don't even want to think about 60+MPH. That Crownline has run-about seats for putt-putting around the lake :faint2:.

Just some thoughts..... nothing wrong with a go fast (my favorite), but you will want to *go fast* !!! Need a hull that can handle it! I would spend my $21,500 on a mid to late 90s Scarab (yes, I am a Wellcraft snob) and go-fast and enjoy it!

def not holding my breathe on this one sticking around too long. Found him on a crownline forum and his last updated post/price was july and dropped from $21.5k to $19kobo. I'd say if someone leaned on him hard enough something in the $17k's wouldn't be out of the question. Oh well, at least I have a TON of info on the history of the boat (last 2yrs anyway) and it seems like a pretty legit ride. Just gotta wait and see if its still there when I'm able to purchase something!

Really appreciate all the pointers and personal experience!!

Matt, pricing in Wisconsin is higher than areas like St Louis. However its cyclical. your cheapest time to buy is right before someone has to put away for winter. Here in FL, pricing is all over the map.

I would offer him the $17k and see if he bites.

It would be a blast to pull alongside a Donzi or Cigarette and smoke 'em with a sleeper runabout cuddy. I was intrigued enough to surf around and ran into this discussion which looks like your seller:

Getting really frustrated!

It'd have to be a smaller, older Cigarette to "smoke 'em". Almost all of the true Cigarettes are 70+mph boats. Now he could outrun some Donzi/Scarab/Bajas/etc all day long. The engine/XR drive are worth his asking price, but I (like others) would hesitate to run a boat that size/weight @ 70mph without some serious safety gear and better seats. Someone needs to link a clip of that boat on LOTO that took a wave from another boat wrong in a powerboat and tossed everyone around like rag dolls, including the driver.

I think I've seen the video you're talking about...pretty scary, but funny as hell to watch as an outsider. One of those, "oh sh**, bet that hurt!" Don't plan on pushing the boat to its limits with the kiddos and wife around. More cautious than that (that and the wife would be the hell outta me...lol) Like I had said before, everyone is very correct that its not made for those kinda speeds except for under certain conditions and even those would be VERY few and far between. I'm not trying to skimp on a race boat and use it for that purpose (I'd just buy a donzi/scarab/baja/etc if that were the case), just like the fact that its there if I wanted to go play. Guess it's like my g-ma a few years ago...she bought a buick regal that was supercharged. 1) a regal doesn't need to be supercharged 2) my 70+ y/o g-ma sure as hell doesn't NEED a supercharged car, but it was there, price was right, she liked it, and bought it! hahaha

Nice boat but....

The problem with waiting till the off-season (christmas) is that in theory you will get a great deal but the reality is that there are not that many boats for sale because they figure if I wait 3 months it will be worth more.

Re: Anyone "know" this boat?

Now find myself snooping around Whipple Superchargers and wondering if one can be stuffed in a 5.7.

Must resist.

Whipple Industries

Sure they can be put on the 5.7L, and is done quite frequently. The issue isn't the engine, it's the drive it's attached to. Most of the DuoProp/Bravo III's aren't made to go up above 400HP (X-versions not included), which is where an SC'd 5.7L will probably be. 400HP+ in a 20' Cobalt ought to be just this side of scary, lol.

Yea, I figured a couch boat couldn't take the bolt on anger of the Whipple. I just got to dreaming, as we lose some 18% HP output up at our lake at 8,500' elevation, plus, it could help pull my fat arse outta the water on a slalom ski.

Here's to hoping OP buys this thing, cause I want to hear more about it.
