I stopped by my merc shop the other day to pick up some genuine merc Bellows Adhesive as I read here that the Sierra might be lacking.
They said the didn't stock it but could bring it in for me.

I asked what they used and was told they put them on Dry.

I've never heard of this. Is this something that other techs do?

Ok. Thanks.

My bad. I didn't mean to put the word exhaust in the title.
I can't seem to edit the title.

In any case I found it strange they didn't stock the bellows adhesive.

The first time I did my exhaust bellows I figured it wasn't that important so I put it on dry (I put adhesive on the drive shaft bellows). The next time I worked on the drive the exhaust bellows was pulled off. Make your own conclusion.
Now I use an exhaust sleeve.

P.S.
I've always used Sierra adhesive with no problems.

I have have used both Sierra and the Mercruiser and found no difference. Funny the Marine repair place in Medicine Hat told me they never use adhesive either, I'm not taking the chance.

The adhesive is the same as 3M Weatherstrip adhesive - which you can buy pretty much anywhere.
