I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried using the Steelflex Super Slick Epoxy on their toons? It's designed for use on airboats and reduces the friction between the water and the bottom of your boat/pontoons. Just curious as to whether it would have much of an affect on pontoons. Since it really wouldn't affect drag--just friction--and since pontoon boats don't "skip" across the water like an air boat, my guess is the affects would be minimal. But you may be able to squeeze out an extra MPH or two at top end. Just curious though :D

This is counter intuitive but it would actually slow it down a bit, I am told that race boat drivers actually sand the bottom of their boats to increase speed.

It has something to do with the water adhesion to the hull, it sticks more on a smooth hull, less on a rough hull so the ruff hull is faster.

I thought the same thing when I painted my fishing boat, nice smooth clear coat should get me some speed but I guess not so much.

Does this mean if a pontoon was made from diamond plate that it would go just as fast?
