Hustler has stopped production of the old prop housing/hub system in favor of a new prop housing/hub system. It is claimed to have greater exhaust flow for better power. Anyone using the new design?

Re: Anyone try the new Hustler props?

I have been running the new Hustler props in 13 3/4 X 15 and 13 1/4 X 17 on my 70hp Johnson. Also have the old style Hustler as well. What I heard and have experienced is that unless you have a large motor you won't notice any difference. Hub is nicer though. Don't need to grease ways as housing only contacts plastic composite material of the hub and can use original washer under prop nut again like regular prop. No need to have to line up that special retainer anymore. Finish is strange black color as it shows some green tones in sunlight, but looks very good and is durable like original silver finish. Be careful though to check for ventilation holes on the 13 3/4 X 15 prop. Mine didn't come with them and I didn't notice it till a friend pointed it out to me. Added my own and made quite an improvement in what I felt was an already a well performing prop. Best price here on Iboats. Price shown includes the correct hub.

Thanks for the post, William. Always great to read first hand experience. After I go through the rest of my old style props, I'll probably go with the new line because I like the way the old design performed for me. The new design is still a very competitively priced prop system. Especially if you bang up your props on a regular basis (Nah, I NEVER do that! ). :D

Well Mark, if you liked the old Hustler design, your going to like the new design even more. Banging props, what's that you say? Managed to whack both my old design 17p and new design 15p this season boating on the Willamette river. Was able to "fix" both though myself. Long time boat repair friend of mine says that if you don't bang at least 2 props per season you just ain't doing much boating. Got my quota this year and family and I had a blast doing it.

- Jeff -

I like the hustler prop as it hardly blows out in the corners even trimmed up. I am talking full speed and 360 degrees on the wheel! 85 HP Force 13 pitch prop 5400rpms @4800Ft altitude. 90 degrees air temps. I love that Bayliner hull as you cannot get the darn thing to slide. Now if I had 115 Evinrude I could really go! :D
Speed is approx 28-30 mph, 8% slip.

The funny part is my exhaust does not go through prop. But the new design works as well as the old.
