I've always used OMC outboards and rebuilt my '75 Johnson 40 last Winter. Now that my boat is almost done (waiting for Spring thaw to finish) I keep wishing I had power tilt/trim.

An early 90's Mercury 40 with the right shaft length came up for sale recently for $750 with T/T and controls. It's a 4-cyl 2 stroke with oil injection. The owner just upgraded to a larger motor on his pontoon boat. Water pump is new as are some of the electronics. He's fine with me running compression tests etc when I go look at it next weekend.

What compression should I expect? Any major concerns with these motors??

Can someone please let me know the best compression range for these motors?

Think I did ok. Compression readings were 133, 136, 133 and 130. T&T works perfectly and holds. Oil injection has been removed. It's a '92 from the S/N. Made a deal on the 40 hp and a mid '80's 35 hp complete with all controls and a spare new prop for the 35 all for $800. It's going to be so nice having power tilt.
