Apparently I'm redoing my floor...

So, my boat has carpet on the floor. But, there are spots that are bubbling up. It appears there is a floor, then some kind of layer on top of that(maybe 3/8-1/4"), then carpet on top of that.

I don't think the main floor is bad, but this other crap seems to be getting there. Any suggestions on how to go about fixing this? I'd just assume tear out the cheap carpet, and replace it with something decent. Just not sure what I'll run into under the carpet here.

all you can do is tear it up and see what is underneath. hopefully the bubbling is not the wood. let us know what you find.

Oh good lord. Someone used my boat floor for screw practice!

And one of my original problems... the ski locker doesn't drain water properly(not at all when I got it)!
the floor is probably rotted where all those screw holes are. cut it out and replace, if foam is wet, do the same. then glass it.

You could just use the ski locker as a live well :) .

-JMW

All those screws...
If those were tacks, it'd look just like the headliner in my truck!

Well, the destruction has started. I tore off that small layer of flooring, and found that the 3/4 ply underneath wasn't in that great of shape. Looks like it's been repaired(badly) once before. Plywood running down the sides of the boat, about 4" in, then segments in the middle. Ripped up the ply, and was greeted with black foam. Poked the foam, and got wet.

So out comes the whole floor, along with the foam now! Should be sunny tomorrow, to get more pics of it. Oh, and the center 2 stringers are rotten as well. The outer 2 are good though, along with the engine stringers. Some nasty rot and fix jobs under the floor though.

I was hoping to avoid this until the fall, but I guess now is better, so the damage isn't worse by fall.

as I well know. the rot is more invasive than you think. when I ripped mine apart, I found that everywhere a screw entered the stringers, there was rot. don't skimp, if ya got the floor off and ya see any rot anywhere, replace it. My grandad once told me that "no one has the time to do it right, but everyone has the time to do it twice."

And this has been done before in my boat, but not so well. Or else I wouldn't have to do it now...

I haven't made a single cut in the boat yet. All I've done, is unscrew and pull/pry on things. You can see where the original floor was cut out, and replaced once before.
