AQ130C Heat exchanger leak question

I have a new to me AQ130C with a known leak from the heat exchanger system. I piped in smoke from a smoke generating leak detector via the exhaust output pipe (whatever that is called), and soon found an obvious leak. But then I saw smoke coming out of both carb inlets (arrowed in the picture).

I am more than a little sketchy on how this sytem works, so I would be grateful if someone could tell me if this is normal. I guess the exhaust and coolant outlet both come out the same pipe, so the combustion and coolant flow must link up somewhere, but I would really like to hear from someone who knows the answer to this! you are testing your cooling water jacket wrong. you need to block off the water jacket inlet and outlet and pressure test to 15psi

with what you are doing.....you will have smoke coming out of the intake if an intake valve and exhaust valve are open. all you are doing is literally blowing smoke up the motors bottom.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to know. The smoke exits from any and all exit points at 2.4 psi. No need for 15 psi. I found my leak, and you have kindly informed me that the smoke will come out via open valves, which is what I suspected.

In some cases heat exchangers can be repaired. An old school radiator repair shop would be the best shot to repair the heat exchanger.
