So i am looking through my head Gasket Set and my Lower Gasket set for my engine. and I come up with Part number 876358 for the Head Gasket (Sierra 18-2982) and 876342 (Sierra 18-2983) for my Lower Gasket Set... Question is...
I went through the Whole Lower Gasket Set and all of the Schematics... and Some of the Items are not included that say they should be included in the kit (No big problem because the gaskets/seals that are missing are only between .50-10.00 max... ) but when i go through the schematics i account for almost all of the seals.. except for this washer... 191747... in this picture below for the gasket set... it is the washer that is Circled... because it is the only one that i cannot account for its whereabouts on the engine schematics... any help?

Re: AQ130D Head Gasket Break Down

Once i figure out where everything goes... I am currently taking pictures of everything that came in the kit, and its corresponding schematic... that way people will have a better way of knowing which gaskets go where in the kit... because it currently doesnt come with any instructions and i found it very confusing when i first opened it up... but than again it might just be because that is the way I am and some people who have done engine rebuilds in the past know where most of these things go by nature... but like i said im not one of those people yet. Thank you.

Also I could not find the location for these three O-Rings.. they are all the same size... (from just eyeballing the orings themselves)

Without seeing the actual size of the copper washer I am going to guess this is for the oil drain pan plug, Or the bolt through the center of the oil cooler. As for the o-rings do they match the two in the end caps for the oil cooler?

Re: AQ130D Head Gasket Break Down

So while bored at work i decided to quickly draw up a diagram of what i got in the kit and where everything goes... like i said this is because im bored...
but i am currently in the works of creating a mass drawing including the two gaskets together... and i will also make a list of extra seals that should be included in the gasket set per the parts list on Volvopentastore.com but are not... the only great thing is.. the gaskets that are missing probably wont total over 20 more dollars...

here is the diagram i drew out of boredom.

As an FYI, the newer rear crank seal housing with the neoprene seal is MUCH easier to install. Here's a link: http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exec/product_id/17742/nm/Volvo_140_Series_Rear_Crankshaft_Seal_Kit_1967_1974_MTC_/category_id/125

Might not hurt to have an extra set of the cooling system (square cut) o-rings on hand. Sierra makes the kit and you may find that having a few extra will be handy as you start sealing up the leakers. http://reviews.iboats.com/Cooling-Pipe-Gasket-Set-Sierra/dm/review_action.all--view_id.222096

Re: AQ130D Head Gasket Break Down

Thank you for the Update, I have just now ordered that Neoprene Seal, and I will be ordering the Gasket Seal kit... (i believe i need to order the seal kit anyways... as per my recollection the squarecut seals that are supposed to come in the Gasket sets are not there...
There should be 6 of them that I am not accounting for so far.
Thank you for the heads up... (So this neoprene will replace the Big Felt seal?
As far as the smaller Felt seal that is still used on the other end of the Crank correct...
Also this neoprene seal do you know that just from Reading or did you use that on your rebuild ... and if you did did it work out ok?

Re: AQ130D Head Gasket Break Down

Take a closer look at the schematics and match the o-ring seals up with the part numbers. You'll notice that there are two sizes of square cut seals for different locations. The ones for the oil cooler sockets are different than the ones for the top of the exhaust manifold. There are also some washers that are square cut but have an inner grooves. Those are used where there is a bolted flange. Another issue I had with the socket fit seals was leaking the first time I fired up the engines. These are an alignment nightmare if you bend the copper tubes any little bit. It's a matter of trial and error. I also used PermaTex aviation sealer (red RTV) initially on the 0-rings and to fill in the gap at the top of the socket. It takes some finess but a gasket pick will help to smooth out the RTV and make it look good.

I've used the rear crankshaft neoprene seal on two rebuilds so far. I had noticed that the felt seals had dried out and were allowing oil to leak by. Because of the location, and the way boats can sit for long periods of time without running, I thought it best to replace it with the updated ones. Also found the rear felt impossible to install without the proper tools. You won't find an updated version for the front because the gear cover on the marine engine is different from the automotive cover. They have updates for the automotive but not for marine.

Re: AQ130D Head Gasket Break Down

Thank you for your update sir... Any possiblity of taking pictures of the RTV sealing job on your engine?
That would help greatly, as I am a little confused as to where to put the Sealant...
And i called Sierra and Volvo on part number 18-0377... is that the one i want or is it VOLVO 876220... Because that is a Square Cut oring seal kit i believe...

Re: AQ130D Head Gasket Break Down

Oh and By the way.. I found out that some of the Gaskets that are included in these two gasket sets *18-2982, 2983 are not the right ones for this engine.. they are for some different engine but they are included in this kit...

Here are some pictures:
HPIM0990.jpg HPIM0991.jpg
First one is several of the copper tubes in the center of the exhaust manifold. Second is the oil cooler water outlet socket.

I originally said this was Permatex aviation but it's actually Permatex high temp RTV (red).
