Hello to all...
First off all i would like to say that i'm new to owing an in board out board boat.I joined this fourm seeking to find out and read as much info i can about the Volvo Penta AQ151..
I own a 1989 SunnRunner with a Volvo Penta AQ151 with a 290 Drive...
Ill give a quick overview of the boat,I got this boat May 2011 and it was in running order, when i got her home the first thing i did was look over the boat to get more fimiliar with it.I first changed the oil in the motor as it looked Due and so i knew it was fresh,i also chenged the oil in the leg as well. I then did the spark plugs, cap, rotor, points and condenser. And also put a new sea water cooling impeller.
She ran fine on her first sea trial,i took it out 3 more time and then i parked her for the rest of the season,i did not know about fogging the motor untill now so that never got done.
When i went out last weekend to get her all clean up i hooked up a fully charged battery and cranked away,it never started up,it just kept cranking..I then walked back to the motor to find out that the timing belt had snaped.
Now i have no idea what or why it snaped but thank god it did in my back yard..i looked at the pulleys and they were pretty rustey but i'm still not sure if it was the rust that broke it or the came or another pully was seized that did it.
Any how i cleaned up all the pullys and instelled a new belt, set the timing the way the manual said, thanks to DON S..your a savior with all your great post and knowledge..After all said and done i went to start it up and NOTHING.. i put my inline spark plus tester on and i have no spark. I'm now thinking that the coil is gone bad???? when i put my multimeter across the -&+ of the coil i get 7.82 volts.. i read some where on this site i should have 12volts not 7?? I also read some where to take the + lead off the coil and test for voltage, ill have to do that in the morning and see if it changes..Any help would be great..Thanks!!
