Hi,

I'm planning to restore the transom on my Aquasport 222 in preparation for next season. Year is 1977.

Previous owner recently installed a new Yamaha 150 on a transom that is not terrible but is most definitely prone to failure in the next few years.

I intend on using seacast or carbon core for the repair as I would like to avoid cutting into the floor & splashwell while keeping the outside skin intact. The deck and stringers seem to be in good shape so I do not want to add a few extra months of work if possible.

Ideally looking for some insight from someone who has done this on a similar model for tips on how to go about it. I just started cutting into it today to see what I'm up against. The old plywood is super wet and seems to shred pretty easily with help from an auger drill bit, dremel & sawzall.

Anything I should be doing differently from the jump or consider before I continue?

Ive attached some pictures as well.

Thanks in advance

You work from the inside, not the outside

Your stringers are toast too and the floatation under the floor will be waterlogged

Why not pull the floor and do a complete job?

Here is a recent Aquasport restoration, showing how to decap it.
