Hey guys, I have a 40 hp mariner mag on a 16 ft bass boat. I have a problem with water arcing up through my transom where the motor meets the back of the boat? This happen when my motor is to low, but when i trim it up the problem disappears. In turn my boat starts bouncing all over the place, witch makes for a very uncomfortable ride. I used to have a hydrofoil on the motor, but took it off a few years ago when I was working on the lower unit. If I returned the hydrofoil to the motor could this solve the issue? Thanks!

Re: arcing water?

You described the problem and the cure. The bouncing I believe is chine walking if it seems to rock from side to side and steering is needed to correct from it. You may be over powered, improperly weighted, have a twisted keel or just a bad hull design.

I've experienced chine walking at 59mph and it was pretty scary. I can only imagine what goes through a racers mind at 100+

When you get em up to about 80, the chines are clear of the lake and yer running on the pad only. At that point it's flying on air, and very sensitive to bad helm input, but it ain't chine walkin'
