Are the larger deep cycle batteries worth it?

I've decided to keep my trolling motor in my 1995 bayliner capri, 3.0.. I know the batteries come in basically two sizes,, I think series 27 or 24 not quite sure. Anyway I bought the smaller one (marine battery) to run my engine and will get a deep cycle for my trolling motor only (deep cycle will only be hooked to the trolling motor). Is there really an advantage to the larger battery,, if so how much more time of usage do you get and is it a noticeable difference. Thanks for any info..

i use the group 24, and have never killed it on a weekend outing.

The battery is like a gas tank one with a bigger amp-hour rating will allow a longer day on the water


So it would depend on the draw of the trolling motor and how long you need to run it

I have a group 24 for starting and 2 group 27's for trolling on my nitro..even though my troller is only 12 volts. A lot of the lakes I like to fish are electric only. I like to have one battery to get me there and another to get me back (if needed)

There is also a group 31 deep cycle. Batteries are like a bucket of water. When there is a fire a big bucket of water is more useful than the small one. How long you are on the water, size of the trolling motor, and how long it runs determines how big the bucket of electricity must be.

We use single Group 27 if not fishing a tournament. Most days it will last from 7AM to about 2PM before see the motor power start to drop off.
However on windy days will start to drop off as early as 11:00AM.
It just depends on the size of your motor and how high you have to turn the power up to control your boat.

Even big motors with power savers will run a long time on the lower settings but if you have to turn the power anywhere near full power when useing the motor they do not last that long.

To sum it up my man bigger lasts longer. If you got the room go with the bigger group 27. They aren't that much more money. I run a 27 for my starting and 2 27's for my bow mounted #55. When I go fishing in the morning I want the option of staying out till dark if the fishing is good. Nothing could be worse than having to motor back or be stuck still fishing with a bobber because you lost your juice....

Thanks. I already have a 24 marine mounted for the motor,,, I'll mount the 27 for the trolling motor and fish finder.. Thanks again..

I have a single large deep cycle for my boat and I can't kill it.

How do you know if its 24 or 27? What the heck are you guys talking about?

The group 24 is the size of the normal auto battery,,, the 27 is approx 2-3 inches longer..
