Are these doohickies what I need?

My wife re-vinyled our entire interior and I need to screw the port and starboard runners back in. I really don't want to mess up her vinyl job, so I plan to use washers. I would also like to cover the screw head and washer. Something like this what I need? http://www.dyersonline.com/Products/Screw-Cover-White__23670.aspx

They appear plastic so they won't corrode. I checked the iboats store but maybe I didn't use the right search parameters.

Sorry, I know it's not the most important aspect of boat restoring, but it is important to my wife

I hate those, they crack in the sun, they pop off and get lost and I think they are just plain ugly, I would much prefer stainless screw heads with stainless trim washers, but ultimately what your wife likes is most important. I guess those buttons would be ok for interior out of the way places but in traffic areas they will get crack and get knocked off cause they stick out.

That is true, the ones we pulled off originally were mostly cracked and messed up. I'll have to see what she thinks with stainless matched up against the white vinyl. Thanks for the suggestion.

Those look like they will work just fine. If you have a local upholstery shop (or upholstery supply store) they might have them in stock. If you are worried about the caps popping, just add a dab of silicone before installing them, easy to break the silicone seal for removal, but will afford a more secure fit.

I do agree with a70 about the SS screws looking better (to me), but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you use SS trim washers against the vinyl make sure to put a SS flat washer on the bottom or the sharp edge of the SS trim washer can (will?) cut through the vinyl and then the wife will most certainly not be happy. I discovered this while installing my newly covered side panels and cut a perfect 1/2" hole through the vinyl where the trim washer seated...

I guess you could make one into a di-punch if crank it down hard enough but I kinda doubt it, I believe after about 10 years out in the weather one could pull through, I guess it all depends on how you apply them whats behind them and the type of material, but if I had to put another washer behind one I would assume just not use it all and go with something else, I see there is a Q&A at that website I linked ask them about cutting through the vinyl and see how they reply.

Get what looks best to you, either way you will be putting holes in the vinyal. It is possible to punch out a hole with a finish washer, so be careful when you run them in that you just snug them up. You might also look into automotive panel fastners like the ones that hold the interior door panels on. You can install them from the back and never have to put any holes in the vinyal. Plus any auto store carries them. Figure out where you want them and put a tiny drop of paint on the back of your panel where they will be installed then put the panel in place(very carefully line it up then push it against where it goes) the paint will mark where you need to drill through the mounting surface. They work well, my wellcraft had them all over from the factory that way....

Ayuh,...

I don't care for the Doohickies, At All....
The Thingamabobs ain't much better....

When I added trim panels to my barge,.. I used Whatchamacallits.....
Just take a standard fabric Snap,...
Use the piece normaly mounted to the boat,+ use it as a washer for the screw,....
Then preassemble a Snap-cap,+ pop it onto the piece you just screwed on....
It ends up Looking like a Snap, but it Isn't.....

doing the same thing to our boat... so when I was at the upholstery shop yesterday pricing up new foam for our bumpers, I asked about the snap covers. Mine were brown vinyl - and I am changing the color to burgundy.

I asked the guy if he sold the snap covers and it is a fairly standard item. He told me that if I cut the vinyl to three by three inch squares, he would cover them for $1.50 each. So -- we're going to do it that way since we don't need that many.

Make a few calls and see if someone in your area will do the same -- you know what the comp cost should be. It's cheaper than the hardware you were going to buy.
