Are two 100 amp alternators enough to charge a 600 amp hour battery of batteries?

I am thinking about adding a group of batteries and an inverter that's separate of the starting batteries. I don't know if two 100 amp alternators will be strong enough to recharge 600 amp hours of batteries though. Do I need a generator in place of an alternator?

Depends on how long they are spinning and at what RPM.

From a purely technical point of view, you cannot get a better charger than an alternator, nothing else comes close in terms of output.

Ayuh,.... 200 amps is Plenty of alternator power for those loads...

'ell,... 1 of them would be enough...

I know car alternators can be ruined when they have to constantly recharge a bad car battery. I assume a boat alternator doesn't have the same problem when it has to do a lot of recharging?

How many amp hours can I reasonably have with two 100 amp alternators? At 150 Amp hours each, deep cell battery banks seem pretty easy to deal with.

The alternative is to have a small 110 volt marine generator, but I don't think I can find the room for one on my boat. I have plenty of room for deep cells though.

You can look up the Amp/RPM performance of those alternators, however, they will put out the 100A/hour each at cruising speed. Marine alternators are very similar to auto alternators. Neither will be ruined if they need to charge a weak battery. If the battery shorts or explodes, that is a different thing.

I am not sure of the rest of your Qs. In theory, the alternators will recharge at the rate of 200 Amphours, if your batteries need it. In reality, the charge will taper as the batteries recharge..
