Situation, installing my rebuilt power head on 96 112 johnson spl.
Wired it all back up as it was, and now upon turnover of starter, im getting smoke out of bonding braid. Only electrical I did was new 3 wire rectifier. which i thought was pretty cut and dry. I do have the OEM shop manual and Im trying to troubleshoot best I can. Just getting a little overwhelmed and frustrated with all wires. My new rectifier is all metal and Im questioning the need for insulation around it? thanks.... "dazed and confused" Joe

ok after a break was thinking cant be wiring cause all the harness wiring is connected to direct power on top of solenoid. braid only heats up when starter is cranked. I hope I didnt blow my new rectifier.

ok, after a break, and some time to re-charge batteries, I decided to clean all batt contacts only to discover ground cable near batteries was a solid rock now. HUMMMMM, NOT GOOD,
