Bet I am going to get flak over this one....but I have to ask.

Does the water in your toilet, when you flush it, go clockwise, or counter-clockwise?

Re: Aussie question....

Just went and tried it out for you BC.
The Dunny washes down equally from each side, and can't detect it swirling either way.
The cold tap in the sink goes clockwise, and the hot tap anti-clockwise.
I do believe we are opposite to the northern hemishpere tho.
Don't worry, there will be more informed comment soon.
Pity Triton isn't still around. He, no doubt would put an interesting spin on it.
Cheers
Phillip

oooh oooh oooh, they did this on brainiac,
it doesn't really matter which hemisphere you're in, it's all to do with the shape of the sink or bowl.

It's the little things that make the difference...

What I noticed about the nothern and southern hemispheres on my recent trip to the US is that the different position of the sun kept confusing me about where north and south is. Kept thinking I was heading south when heading north etc - realised later it was the position of the sun.

Down here a north facing house gets lots of sun. I noticed that up there you talk about south facing houses the same way...

Re: Aussie question....

Thanks for flushing that myth where it belongs Ken :D

I remember when I worked at a computer (PC) company - the crt screens had to be tuned differently (to prevent magnetic distortion of the image) for the southern hemisphere than for the north due to the difference in the earth's magnetic field. Now I believe that to be a fact... :D

The last time I checked the sun was rising in the East and setting in the West. Must have something to do with the international date line. :p ;) How can you get a true reference when you are standing on your head? ;)

Re: Aussie question....

Would seem strange to head north to get out of the cold snowy weather in the winter.............er....um.....or is that summer. Well its winter here so which direction do you go to vacation? Or is that Holiday? The real question is which way does the room spin when ya have too much to drink??? OK now my head hurts.  :)

Re: Aussie question....

In summer, everywhere is hot but queensland (north) gets mega hot. In winter, very few populated areas get snow or ice - except in a scotch glass.

Southerners usually head north for holidays because even in winter, queensland is hot.

I think it's got something to do with bikinis on beaches  . My wife tells me that it's not a bad optic nerve with the surfers either.
