reek, what are you gong to cover the metal with? If carpet, did you allow enough clearance between them for the carpet? Just wondering. :noidea:

I ordered the carpet first (page 9) for that reason so i can relief the gaps properly. And the lids are aluminum and will be piano hinged and gas strut assisted

Im trying to find the best screw type to screw my piano hinges into my aluminum lids. Im using the flattest head ss screws that lowes had but it still protrudes out from the hinge causing the hinge not to close flush... i cant really use rivets cause the way my lids are made, they have flat bar around the perimeter so it will have to be a metal screw or bolt etc.

....

well i guess i could use a countersink bit maybe, im sure that would help some.

reek, check some on line bolt places and see all the options available. I like Bolt Depot my self but have bought from a few others as well. You can pick out what you like and want and even the material they are made out of. The make some nice very flat headed hardware that could solve your situation. Take a look see. JMHO

You could try flush screws until they strip out then upsize to the next size of Flush rivets. You just lay the flush rivet in the countersunk hole and then lay it upside down on a steel surface. Using a hammer tap the rivet shank until it starts to snug up and double check you're still flush. Then drive it home with a couple more taps.

If you buy 100 or more rivets it ends up cheaper than a 100 stainless screws.

Not much happenin lately, get home from work I dont have a lot of time and the weather has been crappy. Heres a couple of pics so yall know i havent died off. Carpeted some of the lids i had made in the bedroom at night. Using the 24 oz carpet, thick stuff. Should be able to work sat and sun, will be working on installing the lids via piano hinges.

Yea I know how you feel. There are a few things you can do to make it rain. Wanting to work on a boat is one of them, washing and/or waxing your car is another. Now if you want to make it stop raining, throw out some fertilizer and it will stop, or plant some new grass or shrubbery At least that is how it works for me..

Due to real life circumstances I was unable to complete this project. Until now. I am back in progress on the bass boat restoration! I will have to take several steps backward before I can continue however.

What happened is water got into some of the wood in my front deck, so I will be removing the front deck and some of the frame. My neighbor has a massive shrimp boat that he wants to cut up and bring to the dump. What my intentions are is to cut the pieces I need out of the shrimp boat and use them in place of all the wood that I am removing. There is plenty of flat fiberglass ranging from 1/4" to around 3/8" or possibly thicker. This way I am done and wont have to deal with wood in my boat.

So to recap, i will be removing the deck and underlying frame that is wood. I will be replacing with solid fiberglass panels cut to fit where the wood was (tab / glass them in).

Also, when i cranked the engine it was not peein' so i dropped the LU and i have a waterpump kit coming in today so I will change that tonight, and start cutting fiberglass "panels" to fit over the weekend (thats a picture of a piece to show its thickness). More Pics to come.

Oh, I forgot to ask. If I grind the sheets / pieces of fiberglass down real clean and Tab them in real good, they should be just as strong I am assuming? I mean, they will tab in / "take" new glass and be structurally strong? Not sure how to word this concern but Im sure they will be fine. Overthinking it as usual.

Changed the water pump when I got home from work. I watched all the YT vids and did some reserach before hand. I had a lot of trouble because of the directions which were wrong. If any of you ever change waterpump kit for Johnson 150 like mine, I have some good advice. They tell you to slide the impeller down the shaft into place, then, you slide the impeller housing / cup onto the impeller. While pushing down and rotating the shaft clockwise it magically pops inside the housing cup. Well ya, it does do that, however, the impeller is larger than the cup inside the housing right? And you push down and turn the shaft so it bends the impeller and makes it pop into the housing. Well... what they dont tell you is if you do that there is a large oring that runs around the outside perimeter of the housing. When you push down and turn, the impeller rubs against the oring and makes it pop out of the groove.

So what I had to do was, install the impeller into the cup / housing and then put the oring in the housing, then slide that assembled unit on down the shaft over the key. I cant see how anyone can do it the otherway without unlodging the oring. Just some advice.

Motor is shooting water at least 10' away from the motor now so we good there. Tomorrow I will be "tidying" up around the boat checking everything for a launch. I intend on launching the boat and running the motor this weekend. After I am satisfied that all the major stuff is mechanically good, I will bring her back to the house and begin ripping out the front deck. If I manage doing all that, I will make some rough cardboard templates to bring over to the neighbors so i can find pieces large enough on his shrimp boat to cut out.

Also, boy o boy is that new Minn Kota Ultrex sweet or what? The one with the GPS "Spot Lock" feature. I cant wait to get my boat finished, I think there is one im my future. I mean you can just hit the button and go to the back of the boat, rig rods or whatever, come back to the front you exactly in the same spot, wind blowing, current, whatever. Im so excited to try that.
