I have seen them before. They are used mostly for off road trailers.
No real benefit for the average boat trailer.
And you cant just yank out your solid axle an put one of these on.
The trailer has to be strengthened quite a bit.

Idlespeed is correct. They are often used on "Off-Road" trailers, there is no real advantage that I am aware of. If you go that route, you will need to have a bar welded, or support added, about where the old axle was. In most cases, the axle is added in, and accounted for in the structural integrity of the trailer. Now, if you want to go with this set-up and do not want to go the route of welding in additional support, you can always go with a torsion axle. Same concept, except that you still have a solid axle support that runs across your trailer.

there are some boat trailers that have torsion axles, however as indicated they are designed for them to begin with. I have only seen them on custom trailers for boats that have an issue with overall trailered height.

There are so few torsion axles used on boat trailer for a reason. They're not needed. The old standard straight axle does a great job and they pull good enough for a very low price. Stick with what everyone else uses.
