Axle Question

Trailer question for anyone with some knowledge. I ordered a new trailer axle, it was measured by the shop. The spring seats are correct but from the seats to the end of spindle is 2" longer per side . So can this work, my tires will sit 2" out further than before

Was the axle custom made? or are the taking a stock length axle and weld on the spring perches?
I'd want the new axle the same as the old.

I believe it was a stock axle with spring seat welded on in place.

A better measurement is to check the dimension between the center of the spring seat and the inner bearing surface (the ridge where the inner bearing stops and the seal area begins).. It is that surface that determines where the inner bearing and hence the wheel will sit. The threaded end of the axle is of little importance (unless of course the axle is too short). There is a recent post where an axle was fitted that had correct spring perch positioning but the spring perch-to-end of the axle was way too long. That much error means there is a very long lever arm that quickly bent the axle at the spring perch. But then we don't know if the axle was overloaded or by how much

What silvertip is talking about was my post if your old axle worked fine why would you go longer? I only had the wrong length because I was following the original axle that was wrong. Now I am check fitting before I order a new axle. Why do you need a new axle and if the old one worked right why change the length. Plus if you had a square get a square if it was round get a round.

I sat the old and new axle side by side to make sure the spring seats were correct that's when I noticed the hub sits out about 2' longer than the old one. I took the old axle with me to get measured when the new one was ordered. The trailer shop was closed when I noticed and wont be open till Monday. Just antsy about getting back on the water. My main concern was safety and tow-ability.

I would think it would be more stable? As long as your wheels don't run into your fenders.

What is the measurement from the hub face to hub face? When you say the axle was bent do you mean the axle was higher in the middle. That would be a pre-cambered axle not a bent axle.
After rereading your last post I would take both axles back to the shop you bought the new one and show them that they screwed up.
