[B][/B]Another Tach Question

I have an 85 Horse Johnson, 1978 model that I just installed on my Starcraft and I cannot get the tach to work. The tach is an older Aquameter and it only has two wires coming from it, one Gray and one Black. The harness coming from the controller has three wires in it Gray, Black and Purple. I currently have the Purple wire connected to a fused circuit, the Blacks to ground and the Gray to Gray. Is this correct? Any help would be appreciated. Also the dial on the back of the tach is set to "6".

Black to Black to Ground, Gray to Gray, and Purple to 12VDC. Tachometer pulsefor boats is usually on the gray wire and power on the other two with black being universally connected to ground.
