Sorry been gone so long...been fishing, working, and wanting to fish some more.
Somewhere along the way I learned to drive a boat.
98 Skeeter ZX176 / Yamaha 150.
DH sent me a 26p TXP 3 blade, which, at the time was the most comparable prop to my existing yamaha 3 blade M-25p.
Along with a few other props, and learning how to drive a boat...here is how it all stacked up.
1. Yamaha M-25p 3 blade worked over by Boger Kustom Propeller (good holeshot, 71mph/5900rpm).
2. 26p TXP Lightning (so-so holeshot, 68mph/5900rpm).
3. 25p merc High Five (rocket out of the hole, 66mph/6200rpm).
4. 25p sorta chewed up Merc Tempest (big fast launch, then it blows out a few times, revs, grabs, slips, revs...and finally off we go. 69mph/6000rpm).

Now the bad news...just threw a blade off of my 25p yamaha prop that I loved. Trying the others again and always wanting more....and now shopping again.

So, can anybody explain to me or discuss the characteristics of/between those small hub racing style props (cleaver, ron hill?, chopper, big ear, small ear, etc?)

Re: Back in the same boat again...pun intented. hayelp!

(not sure if DH works on props, tests them, or ???). So, I'll try not step on any toes here. The 26TXP came from DH. At the time, it was better than my 25m yamaha 25p prop. Although, it would have been hard to tell which prop was on the boat between those two. Remember, my boat would start severely diving off side to side, bow first. (not just a little rocking).
When I finally got the hang of driving it. The TXP was 3mph faster and it had a bit better holeshot. I talked to Rich Boger and "his" preference between those two was the Yamaha prop....and even it wasn't his first choice of what he would "have rather" worked on.
So, I sent him the M25 yamaha prop and kept the TXP for my spare.
Boger was the third shop that had worked on this yamaha prop. He was $250 higher "higher" than the other shops.
His finished product had a better holeshot and added 4mph. The boat handled better and "walked" less.

From there it was just alot of seat time learning how to drive the boat, and with that, it just kept getting faster...no matter which prop I used, the results were faster due to seat time.
I like the txp for my backup prop, which may actually get used more than my main prop...lol.

I don't mean to be plugging Boger, but, he sure made a believer outa me, and I was really worried considering his fees. I almost cried when I ruined that prop.

I'm just shopping around now, again, and wondering what those little hub (exhaust goes over instead of thru) props do?

Ron, I read where you were forced to upgrade to a 300 and had to cut the top out of your v-6 cowling to get it to fit. You know nobody gonna believe that...lol.

Heres a quote off another board.
Typically the over hub props slip more. When you take off, the exhaust gasses blow over the prop blades instead of through the hub. This gets your RPMs up into the power band whereas a thru hub of the same pitch would bog down. A lot of times the over hubs don't carry weight as well as a thru hub. I have heard some people explain this as being due to the fact that the thru hub acts as an extension of the gearcase and when the boat is skint back the gearcase is riding on top of the water and carrying wieght. I'm not sure if that is the case or not. In my experience, the overhubs can carry weight well if you have one with a lot of blade area like a performer. I think some people just got the idea thatover hubs don't carry weight well because the cleavers, ETs, etc. don't carry weight well but they don't have a lot of blade area either.

I like the idea of a 300 that be mean on my little beed:)d:)
By the way i heard boger does good work.my txp is going back too, after i had a little ramp mishap with it and got it fixed it aint been right since,so its going back to turbo to be like new.

You can the plugs put in it to help the holeshot.and spin it up quicker.

I'm going to test try a couple of them and see what happens. That TXP is working good right now though.
I'll post some results in a few days.
